Love Your Town is a Not For Profit organisation comprising volunteers from Energise Tuam, Tuam Chamber of Commerce, St. Jarlath's Credit Union, local retailers and the community. Being a not for profit group means that we re-invest all profit revenues to support, market and promote Tuam"
Why has it been established?
The scheme was established so that the shoppers of Tuam and its environs could be rewarded and shown appreciation for their continued custom. The Programme was based on the ethos of “Community helping Community” With over 500 people employed in participating retail, pubs, restaurants and hotels in Tuam, the scheme also provides a proactive and practical approach for the community to support these local jobs.
The Love Your Town committee introduced a very successful Loyalty Card in April 2009, where the shopper could collect “points”. The shopper could collect a stamp for every spend over €10, and on completion of a card with 10 stamps, could redeem a discount in any participating retailer. From November 2009, the card based system will be replaced by a new and innovative, technology based system, enabled by NFC from Zapa Technology.
Why is it important for Tuam?
Love Your Town Loyalty programme offers people real value and reasons to keep their spend local. In addition, Tuam Community Loyalty Scheme using NFC technology is the first of its kind in Europe!
The adoption of this technology will put Tuam at the leading edge, ahead of any other town in Ireland, Europe or the United States. This NFC, or Near Field Communication, technology has many and varied possibilities. Love Your Town plans that in addition to retail loyalty, that the technology will be implemented over time to pay for parking tickets, library and gym membership, as well as booking and paying for tickets! In addition the technology has many uses in the medical and home care fields. The Love Your Town committee anticipates great opportunities for Tuam and North Galway from its involvement with Zapa and NFC!
What is NFC?
NFC or Near Field Communication is a "contactless" technology. It enables two devices to speak to each other without physically touching. To activate an NFC device you simply wave or tap one against the other. The range of NFC tags is about 2 - 4 cms. NFC chips, such as the ZAPATAG are smart tags that can hold many programmes and tools including loyalty schemes, offers and coupons as well as wallets for making payments. NFC will be a standard feature on most mobile phones in the near future.
How does it work?
The design of the ZAPATAG ensures the consumer now has a convenient and safe method of storing their loyalty points. You will no longer have to “fumble” in your wallet for a Loyalty Card and the tag is simple to use. And you only need the one tag which can be used in all participating outlets.
1. Buy your ZAPATAG for €10 at participating outlets. That’s less than 20cent a week!
2. Attach the ZAPATAG to the back of or inside your mobile phone.
3. Register your ZAPATAG on www.loveyourtown.ie
4. Tap it on the ZAPA reader every time you spend €10 or more to earn a point.
5. Once you have gained 10 points you can redeem a discount in any of the participating outlets.
6. Your ZAPATAG is valid for 12 months from date of activation.
What is my First Tap Offer?
When you purchase a ZAPATAG, Love Your Town will give you instant access to ALL the offers at participating outlets with your first transaction in each one of those stores. We call it our “First Tap Offer”. The First Tap Offer is equivalent to already having 10 loyalty points for each and every participating outlet.
This First Tap Offer alone has the potential to save you €1,000’s over the life of the ZAPATAG. Once you have used your First Tap in a store you will begin to gain points as normal on every transaction of €10.
Why should I register the tag?
Each ZAPATAG has a number unique to you. You should register your tag for a number of reasons:
1. Firstly, by registering your ZAPATAG, if you ever lose your phone, your points won’t be lost as you can transfer your points to a new ZAPATAG.
2. Secondly, you will be able to keep up-to-date with your current loyalty points and upcoming promotions at www.loveyourtown.ie.
3. Every month, 3 ZAPATAG holders will be in with a chance to win a Love Your Town Shopping Voucher.
4. Learn about the great new ways you can use your tag around Tuam. Many exciting and convenient applications are coming on-stream in the near future.
Where can I buy a tag?
ZAPATAGS can be purchased for €10 from the Love Your Town shop on Shop Street, at participating retailers and at St Jarlath’s Credit Union, Dublin Rd Tuam.
How are the community involved?
Love Your Town has always been about supporting our community in the broader sense. We have partnered with Presentation Convent Transition Year students in Tuam to help them develop a marketing campaign using new media such as Social Networking to sell tags to their target demographic of young people in the area. For every tag they sell they will receive commission which they will then use for a Tidy Towns project.
St Jarlath's Credit Union as a member of the Not For Profit company has continued to provide free office space and facilities for the Love Your Town Project Manager.
All the proceeds from sale of the tags will be used in a Not For Profit manner to market and promote Tuam as a vibrant town to live, work, shop and spend your leisure time. We will continue to invest in community projects that enhance our town.
